Bird enclosed receipts of his company, Bird requested his account credited. Capt. Porter informed Bird as one among several officers who received six months pay and subsistance. Bird explained the circumstances for drawing the sum as due to his travel to Philadelphia, far from his residence in North Carolina and believed his pay was justified.
Requests that Marshall provide his account and receipts for monies received from the War Office for the pay of the Militia of Washington County so that Simmons can examine and settle his account. Cited in Simmons to Marshall, 11/02/1797.
Rochefontaine has received the return of clothing delivered to friendly detachments for the month of April. The articles of private property sent to the care of Mr. Smith at New York have also come to hand and the freight has been paid.
General Lincoln says that the muskets he charged to Mr. Minning or Manning, were seen at the stage house where the passengers went to warm themselves while waiting for the boat. Ames assumes that they are in the care of Minning so he has written him and asked him to find them and convey them to Hodgdon.
Pope has disembarked his troops at Natchez and received a cordial reception from the Spanish. The Spanish evacuation was going well until the military stores and cannon were ordered back. There have also been attempts to draw the Indians on Pope's troops and Pope demands that Governor Gayoso punish the principal actor.
Notification that his account for pay for acting as surgeon to a detachment of Army troops at Fort St. Tammany in Georgia has been approved and that he will receive his pay from John Habersham, collector of customs at Savannah.
Certification that $385 is due Captain A. Y. Nicholl, the sum allowed him by the Secretary of War for performing the duty of Surgeon to a detachment of regular troops at Fort Tammany in Georgia from October 15, 1792 to December 31, 1795.
Langham has drawn on the Secretary of War for $500 even though he does not know whether his September, December, or March accounts have passed examination. He asks Hodgdon to pay as much attention to the draft as may be necessary to carry it into effect.
Forwards to Hodgdon his cost estimates for June-August for Pittsburgh and its dependencies. Lists bills drawn since Wilkins' last letter. Appended is an apparently mis-dated letter which reiterates the sentiments of the previous.
Certification that $32.40 is due Uriah Higbey, late Artificer in Captain Michael Kalteisen's Company of the Corps of Artillerists and Engineers, being his pay from January 1 to April 18, 1797, the day of his discharge.
