Simmons received letter from Carrington dated August 29th, which enclosed the receipts of Captain R.S. Blackburn, Lieut. Saunders, and D. Petteson surgeons mate. Total amount: $393.71 which will be entered to Carrington's credit. Monies mentioned in Carrington's previous letter should be paid to Frederick L. Claiborne and Ensign Samuel Crutchfield at Richmond. Simmons requests Carrington collect receipts.
Simmons received Shoemaker's letter dated September 31st which enclosed sundry receipts for bounty paid to recruits. Receipts will be filed in Office and will be passed to Shoemaker's credit upon settlement of recruiting account.
Simmons received letter from Torrans dated May 3rd regarding his enclosed account of subsistence from September 1, 1794 to June 1, 1795. Total amount: $92.82 which will be paid to Torrans by Habersham upon acquisition of receipts.
Hodgdon confirms receipt of Craig's letter of August 25th. He relates the very despondent atmosphere of Philadelphia, as fear of the recent [yellow fever] outbreak rides high, and confirms he will take care of the business outlined in the letter.
Invoice of stores from Issac Craig to be delivered to Ft Massac, Illinois via Ohio River by John Robinson, who notes that he will deliver the goods to the commanding officer at such place on the river as he shall direct in good order. Casely acknowledges that he has voluntarily enlisted to serve one year in the Marine Service, unless sooner discharged, according to the Act passed July 1st 1797 which provides a Naval Armament. The rules and articles of the Navy against mutiny and desertion have been read to him and he will be paid six dollars per month.
Because of the agony and anquish caused by the fever, it is foolish to risk valuable men and therefore indipensably necessary to remove them to the country until it subsides.
Simmons received letter from Miller dated August 31st which contained muster and pay rolls of his recruits. Total amount: $88.80. Simmons deducted $0.08 for John Deming and $0.10 on the pay of []Martin and Joseph Voughan. New total of $88.52 which Miller will receive from Chester, Supervisor at Weatherfield. Simmons requests duplicate receipts from Miller.
Simmons stated Treasurer will remit Chester sum of $88.52 with which Chester will pay Captain Edward Miller at Middletown. Payment is for Miller and recruits under his command as of August. Chester should collect duplicate receipts from Miller.
