Hamfield acknowledges that he has voluntarily enlisted to serve one year in the Marine Service, unless sooner discharged, according to the Act passed July 1st 1797 which provides a Naval Armament. The rules and articles of the Navy against mutiny and desertion have been read to him and he will be paid six dollars per month.
Charles Cotesworth Pinckney informs James McHenry that he and General Marshall are on their way to Paris so that the delay of their journey is not attributed to bad motives. Pinckney reports that the French are very aware of the internal divisions in America on foreign policy and that this may make negotiations very difficult.
Simmons notified Carrington of Daniel Bedinger's debt to United States for the sum of $388.15. Bedinger ready to refund sum to government and Simmons advised Carrington to apply to Bedinger for money. Upon acquisition of money, Carrington is requested to forward receipts to Office.

There was a mistake in Marschalk's last muster and payroll that should be corrected. John Dale's enlistment began on the 4th instead of the 14th of August. A note has been made on the pay receipt and a remark will be added to the next payroll.
