Swan transmits to McHenry the receipt of Capt. Andrew McClary for the sum of one thousand dollars on account of the pay of the Army up to the 30th of September 1797.
Treasurer of United States will remit $100.00 to Wentworth. Simmons requested that sum be used to pay Edmund H. Quincy, clerk of Navy Yard at Portsmouth. Payment is compensation for July through September.
Muster and pay rolls for troops at West Point for September plus abstract of the subsistence accounts for officers received. Simmons will adhere strictly to principle established in regards to settlement of subsistence accounts. Vouchers transmitted by Freeman passed examination leaving a positive balance of $230.74.
Certification that $349.69 is due Lieutenant Samuel Dyson and Captain Staats Morris and the men under his command at Whetstone Point, Baltimore Maryland, being his pay for August and September 1797 and their pay September 1797.
Certification that $90 is due Claude P. Pourcheresse, being his compensation as assistant storekeeper at Springfield Massachusetts from July through September 1797.
Certification that $100 is due Edmund H. Quincy, Superintendent of the Navy Yard at Portsmouth New Hampshire, being his compensation for July through September 1797.
Certification that $16.86 is due Pvt. Moses Wright of Capt. Edward Butler's late company of levies, being his pay from April 30 to November 16, 1791, including the time allowed him to go home.
Enclosed are the accounts and vouchers of John Habersham, agent for mounting cannon at Savannah, Georgia, beginning 23 October 1795 and ending 31 December 1796. these accounts were erroneously forwarded to the Treasury Department.
Personal letter from Gillaspy, Surgeon's Mate, to Simmons. Gillaspy notes that he has not been well since he last saw Simmons. Mentions medical situation on the Navy frigate U.S.S. United States. One fellow has died. Gillaspy surmises that Simmons has heard about his fate. The old fellow gave several severe jerks. Gillaspy remains very weak, is unable to walk, speak, or eat...still tormented. He appointed [D. Bullen?] as mate...his acceptance has not been sent yet. Gillaspy closes by noting this is his first attempt and he is tired...his nurse is holding him. He sends his best to the Simmons family and asks that Simmons write a few lines back.
Simmons received following receipts - Lieutenant F.S. Claiborne, Ensign Sam Crutchfield, Captain R.L. Blackburn. Total sum: $934.68. Sums will be passed to Carrington's credit.
Certification that $472 is due Lts. Henry Muhlenberg and George Ross, Surgeon's Mate John R. Lynch, and Major Lewis Tousard and the detachment of the Corps of Artillerists and Engineers under his command at Mud Island Fort, being his and their pay for September 1797 including forage for himself and Lynch and the balance of bounties due the non-commissioned officers and privates.
