  Notification of Mailed Receipt Roll

  Steele notified he will receive receipt roll for the pay of troops under his command. Sum will be remit to Steele by Samuel Lewis. Amount rendered to Steele by Lewis did not include the pay of Robert Young and John Smith. Simmons advised Steele that all future recruits must be made known to the Office through a muster roll before they are paid. Simmons noted that Steele received double rations for July, an entitlement no longer justified as stated by Congress. Simmons demanded Steele settle the account for rations with the contractors and forward a certificate of the transaction the exonerate Steele from the charges.

  Monies advanced to paymaster Presley Nevill paymaster general to militia called out to suppress an insurrection in Western Counties of Pennsylvania in 1794. Mr Paul McDermott, late paymaster to Virginia Militia Cavalry stands charged with sums of money paid, as no vouchers have been transmitted. Requests immediate attention in consequence of Resolution of Congress on 3 March directing Simmons to furnish abstract of names of receivers of public monies unaccounted for.

  Recommendations of Mister Pollard

  Mr. Pollard has the opportunity to procure a situation in the Treasury Department and has need of the recommendation written for him by the late John Wilcox so it can be presented to the Secretary. He also wants a letter from Hodgdon describing Wilcox's verbal declarations relative to Pollard's probity and good character.
