Craig sorry Hodgdon was deserted by his assistants, hoped that the upcoming season will bring health back to Philadelphia and induce them to return to the city. Waggoners in need of money for return travel, provisions arrived late, Craig will attend to them with all expediency.
Enclosed is Matthew Ernest's draft on Hodgdon for one thousand dollars drawn in favor of Hugh McClure that Hodgdon is asked to accept and return to Meeker.
Miller has received from John Chester, Supervisor for the District of Connecticut, the sum of $92, being the pay of himself and his men for September 1797.
Treasurer of United States will remit $375.40 to Carrington. Simmons requested Carrington use sum to pay Captain Alexander Gibson at Staunton for August and September. Sum should also be used to pay Ensign Henry Bowyer.
Pay roll issued to Gibson and detachment under his command was examined and deductions were taken from pay of William McNeal, James Morgan, Robert Allison, Felix McFarlan, Bradford Stewart, Pittsberger Huffman, and Craig. Balance of $376.40 Gibson will receive from Edward Carrington. Pay of George Oliver withheld; Simmons cited poor judgment by Oliver in regards to orders given to him by Capt. Price.
Morris' recruiting account required muster roll of Company for October. Simmons suspended settlement until documents were produced. Simmons noted that John Stockson did not receive bounty due prior to regular discharge. Brassbridge paid for apprehension of Lawry, sum was not credited to Morris' account until further explanation was provided.

Captain Griffith McRea of the Corps of Artillerists and Engineers has been ordered to recruit in North Carolina with Wilmington as his rendezvous. He believes that the clothing, arms, and equipage he requires should be forwarded by the American Packet, commanded by Captain Bell, that sails monthly between New York and Wilmington.
Tredwell informs Simmons that the $500 he received in December 1794 has long ago been appropriated for the purpse for which it was intended and the relevant account vouchers are herwith transmitted.
Secretary of State Timothy Pickering expresses regret to Secretary of War James McHenry that his letter was prematurely published by the Pittsburgh newspaper. Pickering then reports that a source close to him has said that because the French government has gone as far as dragging effigies of John Adams in the streets, many of the French people understand that the Americans are in the right and the French government is in the wrong.
