Hodgdon compliments Capt. Elliott for the dispatch with which he has sent the heavy cannon to their several southern destinations. He notes that Elliott will soon be asked to superintend a laboratory to be established in New York.
In addition to the cannon already ordered, Hodgdon wants additional cannon and field carriages transported to Philadelphia by whatever mean that will insure their delivery with the greatest dispatch.
Certification that $555.39 is due a detachment of the Corps of Artillerists and Engineers at Governors Island under Captain Frederick Frye, being the pay of himself for April and May 1798, the pay of Lieutenants John McClallen and William Wilson for May 1798, the pay of Surgeon's Mate Samuel Osborn (including forage) for May 1798, and the non-commissioned officers and privates for May 1798 and the balance of bounty due Corporal Asa Hull.
Certification that $42.53 is due Lieutenant Charles Hyde, paymaster to the 1st Regiment, being the payments made by him to Private William Barker for his pay from November 12, 1797 to May 31, 1798 and for bounty paid and premium allowed for enlisting him.
