Houdin has only just received Simmons' letter of March 22. He explains the limited nature of his enclosed account current: he had been informed that his account would close in August 1797 and had sent a statement to Hodgdon, but did not keep a copy. He suggests Simmons ask Hodgdon for the statement.
John Van Dyck requested certification of the settlement of his accounts as Captain Lieut. of Artillery in Cinncinati. Van Dyck swore his accounts were closed but no evidence exists in the New York State Society.
Hodgdon asks Elliot to send four 24 pound guns to Lemuel Weeks in Portland. Mr. Weeks has a brig currently at Providence bound for Portland which can carry the guns, so Elliot only needs to move the guns from their present location to the ship. If Week's ship has already sailed, Elliot should find another vessel bound for Portland to convey the guns.
McHenry would have delivered Washington's letter to Parker had he not learned that Parker had connected himself with a democratic printer. McHenry has purchased the land for the arsenal in the Shenandoah and hopes soon to begin manufacturing small arms at the site. Gerry has been playing the role of the double politician by communicating with Tallyrand but surely his pride will prevent him from doing further mischief. McHenry hopes that Washington will accept command of all the armies since he alone can unite all hearts.
Michael La Flache is due pay from 1 July 1797 through
28 February 1798 which should be sent to him as he is very anxious for it. Dayton has an order from the Secretary of War for La Flache's rations to be delivered.

Certification that $11.59 is due to Private William Taylor of Captain Samuel A. Harper's Company of Maryland Militia called into service in the year 1794 to suppress an insurrection in the western counties of Pennsylvania, being additional compensation allowed him by an Act of Congress of January 2, 1795.
