Huger mistakenly made payments which should have been made by the contractor. Money furnished by Huger came out of recruiting funds. Capt. Kaltriten assured Huger recruiting advertisements were placed.
Deveaux declares that he has enlisted 25 men and has transmitted 23 duplicate receipts. Two more will be forwarded as soon as the two recruits return from furlough. Included is his account of the moneys paid recruits and musicians for a total of $224.
Notification by John Murray that Captain Sever of the Herald sloop of war left Halifax Nova Scotia with cannons and shot requested by General Washington and are en route to be delivered to Charleston, SC per the order of Benjamin Stoddert.
