Describes his plans for repairing [Fort Niagara] and discusses the friendly relations between British and American forces stationed on the Niagara River. States: "Two regiments have arrived at Quebec and the British force which will remain in Canada this winter amounts to upwards of eight thousand regulars exclusive of two provincial battalions." Arrangement of the Officers of the Infantry Regiments

McHenry suggests to Hamilton that the rule of seniority should be followed with regard to assignment to specific regiments and transfers between regiments should not be detrimental to individual officers. He then lists numerous assignments and transfers that have aided or injured specific officers.

Procuring a Large Iron Press of Suitable Construction

Ames observes that a large iron press of suitable construction would be useful in punching locks and mounting and patterns might be cut with less trouble. Since it is very difficult to obtain good castings, Hodgdon is asked to procure one made after the pattern of Mr. MacCarmoth in Philadelphia. If it is constructed for strength and usefullness it can be sent it to New York or New Haven as soon as it is convenient.
