Regarding a claim by Col. Silas Dinsmore, a recently-resigned colonel appointed by General Knox who is now making claim for compensation. Asks for the General's opinion on it. Adds that he considers Col. Dinsmore to be an intelligent, industrious, and upright servant of the public.
Enclosed is a paper signed by Captain Nicholls certifying one suit of clothes due to John Gold and a Power of Attorney from Gold to John Strong. Church wants to know how to procure clothing for Strong who is an orderly to Major General Hamilton.

Lt. Pope reports that that one of the men in Capt. Eddins' company now has symptoms of small pox so there is concern about infecting others of the 58 persons now residing at Fort Jay. Blamed "frequenting a house on white hill dock" for the infection.
