James Miller, Quarter Master General assures William Simmons that no account has passed through his hands without consideration of the interests of the United States. Miller will comply with the requisition made by the Secretary of War as soon as notice is received of the particular cases. Miller refers to a previous letter stating that Simmons has found excessive charges and "enormous" commissions by noting that there are no specifics. Miller requests further information in order to provide proper and satisfactory explanations.
Hamilton observes that it appears that the continuance of the recruiting service under Gen. Pinckney has proceeded from some misapprehsnsion of Hamilton's intentions but he has written the general on the subject.
