Sir
This moment I received your letter of the 23d instant. The draft you mention shall by duly honored. The next paragraph gave me pain - The Death of General Wayne will be lamented by every true American. He was faithful, brave, and honest. The scenes you mention to have taken place on the river is shocking - from the season here, I had supposed it was severe in your Country, the cold has been intense, thousands of People have been seen on our river for several days past Houses, Tents, and Boats for tipling in abundance - Business entirely at a stand -- Adams President Jefferson probably Vice, adeiu
