You will find this letter accompanied by an Abstract of Accounts of Expenditures in the Quarter Master Department &ca at the Post of Pittsburg & its dependencies during three months VIZ July August September 1795 with the addition of two accounts of Desbursements of an earlier date at Wheeling and you will observe that these accounts commence with No 750 & end with 1961 inclusive aggregate amount is Thirteen thousand & nineteen dollars ninety four 2/9 cents but as several of these accounts viz No 1762, 1763, 1813, 1842, 1885, 1890, 1892, 1920 & 1939 are Vouchers of Expenditures under the Authority of the Accountant of the War Department & post Master General, their amount Viz Eleven hundred seventeen dollars fifty one & two third cents is therefore deducted & the vouchers transmitted &c charged to their respective departments the amount therefore of desbursements in the Quarter Master Department is eleven thousand nine hundred & two dollars forty two & five ninth cents which sum be pleased to place to my credit. The Vouchers of that Expenditure you will find enclosed in two packets now transmitted addressed to you & No 1 contains 96 vouchers from No 1750 to 1869 inclusive. Packet No 2 contains 107 vouchers from No 1850 to 1961 inclusive On Examining these vouchers you will observe no doubt that several of them are accounts of Expenditures in the Commissary Departments particularly No 1813, 1911, 1912, 1917 & 1967 being amounts of Provision purchased at Presque Isle by order of the Secretary of War to supply the troops stationed at that post and as there is a certainty of considerable similar expenditures at that post I am solicitous to know whether there is an absolute necessity.
