Notifies Dallas that "a considerable number" of powers of attorney for land warrants due from the U. S. to the officers and soldiers belonging to Pennsylvania regiments in the Revolutionary War have been forged and that he can alert Dallas to the method of the frauds so as to prevent false claims
Certification that $331.60 is due Lieutenant John Saunders, Lieutenant James Triplett, Cadet Peter Samkin, Captain Richard Blackburn, and the men under his command at Fort Norfolk, Virginia being his and their pay for April 1797.
Certification that $1271 is due the Corps of Artillerists and Engineers stationed at West Point, New York, being the pay and forage of the commissioned officers, non-commissioned officers, and privates through April 1797.
Certification that $210 is due John Nicholson for his services inspecting swords, muskets, bayonets, musket and pistol barrels and all the parts of small arms, examining all arms to be repaired and inspecting them when repaired, and selecting the parts of arms and materials for repairs to be used in Philadelphia or sent to the armourers at New London and Springfield from February 10 to May 10, 1797.
Simmons repeats his request that Hodgdon transfer the $1000 advanced to Captain Heth by John Wilkins, Quartermaster General, to the credit of the proper person, as directed by the Comptroller.
The partnership of James Manning & Co. has been dissolved and Smith now holds the contract for supplying the troops at West Point and Governors Island. All the goods are now forwarded to their destinations including those for Albany. He has found the muskets discussed by David Ames and has sent them by the Amboy stage boat. It appears that the muskets were sent from the stage house to the ferry house at Whitehall with General Lincoln's baggage.
Enclosed is the muster and payroll for Capt. Morris's Company for April 1797. It should be noted that Lt. Samuel Dyson has not received pay since the day of his acceptance and stands in much need of what is now due him. Simmons is asked to forward it at his earliest convenience.
