Enclosed is a memorandum from Colonel Sargent in which he makes application for payment of the money owed him. Since it is not in Swan's power to obtain the money, Hodgdon is asked to obtain payment for Sargent if it is within his power.

Cantrill requested compensation for services provided related to expedition in Cherokee nations country. Cantrill ordered by General Robertson to destroy two Indian towns (Running Water and Nickajack). Secretary of War did not sanction event.
Enclosed are the muster and pay roll of the recruits under Dayton's command up to 1st April 1798. Along with their pay, he requests blank receipt rolls.
Transmitted are McRea's recruiting account and vouchers. As only $200 has been paid, there is a balance due which should be remitted. Finley and Miller are good soldiers whose fidelity entitles them to their bounties upon reenlistment. McRea also includes his own account for the pay due him.
Encloses correspondence between Colonel Hawkins and Mr. Branham, the present contractor. Branham is permitted to keep a store in Indian territory, although it may cause problems with the Indians and divide the settlers. Refers to nature of business, and seeks assistance of young men from Savannah to keep books for the factory.
Agent Henley requests a Bill of Exchange for $1000 to be paid to Robert Preston for value received in specie from King J. Crozier, which sum is to be applied to the recruiting service and for which Henley holds himself responsible.
Hodgdon's expresses his disgust with the "rascal" Phillips who apparently will not meet his obligations regarding the supplies needed for the Treaty with the Cherokees. Anderson is asked to find a reliable replacement for Phillips who will carry out this important mission.
Certification that $306 is due a detachment of the Corps of Artillerists and Engineers under the command of Captain Richard Blackburn at Fort Norfolk, being the pay of himself, Lieutenants John Saunders and James Triplett, Cadets Peter Lambkin and Thomas Blackburn, Surgeon's Mate William Barnwell (including forage) and the non-commissioned officers and privates, for February 1798.
